What is the Special Olympics Polar Plunge?

Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Polar plunge is an annual fundraising effort hosted by Special Olympics. Leading up to the Polar Plunge event, individuals or teams collect pledges from friends, family, and colleagues.

A fundraising amount of $60 is required to qualify to take a cold-water plunge or participate in the 5k run, or $100 minimum to participate in both, at the end of the fundraising period with the other qualifying teams. You may also join in the fun as a team fundraiser only, if you do not wish to run or cold-water plunge! Proceeds collected help provide year-round sports training and competitions for Special Olympic athletes. For more information about the different Polar Plunge events, visit the Special Olympics Oregon official Polar Plunge website!

Donation benefits for Special Olympic athletes:
$100: Covers one athlete’s equipment for a season
$250: Sends an athlete to a regional competition
$500+: Funds health screenings for multiple athletes
